I published two handmade books at the Fine Arts Press under the guidance of Bonnie O’Connell — my very first and second artist books.
Sunny Side Up, 2011. Edition of 12.
Sunny Side Up is a 3-inch accordion book with a removable spine. Printed in one run on a Vandercook, the main text was set in 6-point Romulus Bold. The paper is Fabriano with Cromatica vellum leaves. The green egg illustration was my first linocut block.
Read Freely, 2012. Edition of 25.
Read Freely is a 4.5 x 5 inch, double-sided accordion book. As you reach the end, you can keep turning to read through the opposite side. My professor challenged us to utilize her woodtype, and I went a bit too far by filling the entire press bed. The poem is inspired by my love of books and shift toward a career in librarianship. This book features two flying book illustrations carved out of lino as well as a found woodcut manicule. Type is set in Century Bold and Romulus Bold over miscellaneous woodtype. Papers are olive and cream French speckletone.
I also made my very first business cards during this class. (None of the contact information is accurate anymore.)
